Why this guide?
I’ve been working with generative AI for proposals since 2021, and at the time, we were five companies building bidding tools worldwide (literally). It was a geek niche, and nobody really paid much attention.
Then, in November 2022, ChatGPT happened. The fastest-growing app in history took the world by storm and, naturally, grabbed the attention of many peers in proposals.
Since then, AI-powered tools focused on RFPs and proposals have flooded the market, including the tech vendors that were already big players who rushed to connect their apps to generic AI large language models.
The last time I counted them, there were dozens of tool offerings, including the legit ones and those with nothing more than a web page.
Options is not something we’re going to miss. What’s missing is ways to differentiate the signal from the noise.

No, these are insights about AI in proposals overall.
The principles apply no matter what tool or tech vendor you use.

Yes, the version of this guide available today was written in February 2024.
AI in proposals is advancing very fast, so although the details will surely become obsolete, I believe the fundamentals of these insights will last a long time for us in bidding on proposals.
I plan to refresh this guide with new findings and updates that you’ll get for free.
